As women, we hit many milestones in life. One of those is turning 30. While society tells women that turning 30 is the time to dress conservatively, buckle down and get serious, more and more women are challenging this notion - and they’re doing it with style!
This includes the beautiful and fearless Nicole. When Nicole got in touch wanting to do a photo shoot to commemorate entering her Dirty 30s, I leapt at the opportunity to do something fun and a bit different with a one-of-a-kind gal.
The theme for the photoshoot was RIP to her 20s. This meant lots of black and a lot of sass - something Nicole pulled off so effortlessly. As a photographer, I’m used to helping my clients pose and feel comfortable in front of the camera. With Nicole, no direction was needed! She was a complete natural and the camera loved her as a result.
We started off taking pictures in the great outdoors accompanied by a lovely bottle of Jack Daniels. Nicole donned a stunning black dress that highlighted her thigh tattoo beautifully, as well as a black floral headpiece that made her copper locks the envy of every woman out there.
We also incorporated some fun funeral-style props like black balloons and blood-red roses. Props are a great way to help clients relax and find something to do with their hands. For this photoshoot, the chosen props fit in perfectly.
One of the things I love most about being a photographer is getting to capture people as they are. And with the amount of self-love, beauty and energy that Nicole radiated during our shoot, the final pictures capture her essence perfectly.
Nicole frolicked freely in the lake, taking no notice of her dress getting wet. She let her guard down and enjoyed herself - the number 1 thing every photographer wants from their clients. She took her killer heels to the woods and played on fallen down logs. Nothing was precise or planned - it was natural, sensual and free.
I had an absolute blast working with Nicole. It's not every day that you get to work with someone who is so unapologetically themselves. So while society may scare women into thinking that turning 30 is a bad thing, Nicole’s photos serve as a great reminder that getting older can be pretty awesome. Life is all about loving yourself, having fun and rocking what you’ve got. So why not book your next photoshoot to commemorate a birthday? It may just be the best thing you’ve ever done!
