It’s not every day that someone asks you to be part of their proposal. So when Brendyn got in touch asking for my services to propose to his lovely lady Shania, I couldn’t wait to get in on the surprise.
But how on earth does a photographer snap the perfect proposal shot without giving the surprise away? With expert planning, that’s how! Brendyn’s dad Michael originally reached out to me to see what we could come up with. Then, Brendyn, Michael and I discussed details and what Brendyn wanted from the shoot. Most notably - doing it at sunrise. Every photographer's dream!
This is how it all went down. Brendyn and Shania were on vacation in Virginia Beach from New York State. It was 6:00 in the morning, and they decided to watch the sunrise and soak in the beauty of the world around them. That’s where I came in! I bumped into them and pretended that I was due to take a photo shoot of a couple that cancelled on me last minute. Since the shoot was already paid for, I offered it to Brendyn and Shania.
Luckily, Shania said why not? So I began snapping away! Let me tell you - the skies were incredible that morning. It’s like the world knew that the perfect proposal was going to happen! Shania wore a gorgeous floral dress that looked beautiful against the ocean backdrop. And Brendyn did a great job of holding it together considering he was about to ask Shania a question that would change their lives forever!
Then, just as the sun started to rise, I put them in position and he got down on one knee to propose. It was such a beautiful and raw moment shared between two people who clearly love each other so very much. Shania wasn’t expecting a full-on proposal to happen and was completely surprised. Her reaction was so loving, pure and sensitive.
Overall, it was a very emotional shoot and one of which I am honored to have been a part of. Being able to capture such a life-defining moment for two people doesn’t come around very often, and what better way to do it than at sunrise on the beach?
Brendyn and Shania had so much fun together and didn’t mind getting a little wet in the ocean. They were so blissfully in love that nothing else seemed to matter - something which is reflected beautifully in the final photos.
Nothing was forced in this shoot - all of that love came very naturally to this wonderful couple. I am thrilled to have been a part of their special day and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for these two love birds.
